Most people have some of these military tailamps kicking about. whether they are CB ones from an Indian motorcycle or the Guide ones from a Harley-Davidson or Wileys Jeep. The issue is the globes are often soldered into a diecast caseing and are very expensive and/or difficult to replace especially if your away from your home base.

At Crazyhorse people ask us about these constantly so we decided to do something to resolve the problem. We developed a globe mounting plate with 2 globe holders each with twin filament BA15 sockets. this means you can fit a shortform BA15 stop tail globe or a shortform BA15 running light or any combination. These globes are readily and economically available at most good autoshops.

It does require disassembly of the old lamp to fit the new globe holder plate but at most it will take 15 mins per unit. The new plate is made in stainless steel to prevent corrosion its also supllied with 2 plastic lens spacers to make sure you dont crack your lenses if you tighten the lens screw too much.

procedure

I talked last week about a new fix for old military tailamps.

1/ Remove the inner globe holderhousing plate ( a light tap on the mounting bolts from the rear should see this come loose from the main lamp housing ( protect the threads first)
2/ place the old globeholder over the new globeholder plate by lining up the mounting studs and the new globe sockets the plate should sit right down onto the socket holder retaining screws.
3/ the main lamp house has 2 steps around the square mounting holes. these steps can be pressed flat using a large punch quite easily.
4/ the new double plate can be manipulated under the lens mount tabs ( there is more room on one side ) so use this side. make sure you feed the wites thru the holes first because they are a bugga to fish out afterwards.
5/ using the skinny flat nuts tighten up the plate on the back of the lamp housing
6/ apply the sealing grommets around each wire.
7/ install the correct single or dual filament globe in each holder
8/ before fixing the lens cover make sure you apply the spacer ontop of the lens screw tabs.

47210-6V short form Twin Pole single filament (running lamp) 6V

BA15D-12V short form Twin Pole dual filament (stop/tail) 12V

all these lamps are listed under these part numbers on this site if you struggle to find them, the standard 47380 47382 lamps are too tall to fit so they must be the short form types.
