Directions for Fitting the New Westinghouse
Ammeter to Old Style Casings
B
For those dealers who desire to fit the new type Westinghouse ammeter to old style casings and wiring system, we issue
the following instructions.
The new ammeter has a loop or "yoke" on the back of the
casing, instead of the usual two binding posts. No wires need to
be attached directly to this new ammeter. Instead, a wire must
be passed through the yoke twice, as shown in the accompanying
illustration.
DIRECTIONS
Procure a short length of regular insulated lighting wire,
about 6 inches long - long enough to be passed through the yoke
twice (See A, Figure 1). This wire must be attached to the three
wires which formerly went to the generator, horn, and center of
the switch. In other words, holding the ammeter as shown in the
from the center of the switch, plus the wire that goes to the generator, plus the wire that goes to the horn, to the end of the wire shown as B, Figure 1.

Now see that the short length of wire is run through the yoke TWICE, as shown at
A in Figure 1.
Connect the other end of the wire to the wire that formerly went on the other binding
post of the old ammeter - the one that goes to the battery, C, Figure 1.
The ammeter is now connected so that it will work correctly, but before placing it
back in the casing, it MUST BE thoroughly INSULATED.
CAUTION!
Do not attempt to insulate these joints B and C, by binding them with ordinary insulation tape. They MUST BE BOUND WITH RUBBER INSULATION TAPE such as is used
throughout the Indian wiring system. There will be plenty of room for a good job of insulating, because there will be more space inside the casing than there was with the old style ammeter. The joint C, shows how the insulation should be carried out.
